Building a Jewish Community Card Game

The goal of this activity is to familiarize teens with the basic infrastructure of a Jewish community. Teens are divided into teams on the premise that a developer is investing $8,000,000 into the creation of a Jewish community. Each team is tasked with proposing a model community that doesn’t go over budget.

There are many ways to do it, but what we did is as follows: Advisors are positioned around the room and each one plays the role of someone involved with each part of a jewish community. (i.e. gabai of shul, secretary of school, mkiveh attendant, etc.). Each group stops by every advisor who explains to them (3 min) the significance of their role. After that they hand the team the card that summarizes sources and lays out the cost.
